May 22, 2018 In order to ensure students are optimally benefitting from Math Project’s Core and Remedial/Foundational programs, parents and students are required to read and sign the following homework policies before attending any study sessions after May 1, 2018. We are implementing these rules to help students with key life skills, such as time management, work organization, setting priorities, meeting deadlines and above all, taking responsibility for their studies. As such, all students are required to abide by the following policies:
Students are expected to complete the homework, assigned in the yellow box of the weekly performance report, on time and to the best of their abilities. They must show steps and follow the instructor’s guidelines.
Homework completion entails attempting each and every questio n in the assigned worksheet or exercise unless specified otherwise. Even if the concept is not so clear, the student must try to attempt using the examples provided in class or book. Failure to do so is deemed incomplete homework.
Students must follow the formatting and work organization guidelines provided by our instructors.
If a student is absent from a session due to any reason, all homework (including any new contest homework) will still be due in the following session. It is the parent’s responsibility to check the performance report and communicate all homework to the student in a timely manner.
Our instructors are equipped to inform the students about the homework due in the next session within the first half of the Math Project session. It is the student’s responsibility to work with the instructor during the session to develop clarity of homework concepts.
The student must let the instructor or Math Project administration know clearly during the session if he or she is struggling with a concept and does not feel prepared to do the assigned homework.
If parents find the homework too much, please notify us in advance, so that we could agree on the number of worksheets/exercises to be assigned each week.
Academic integrity is an essential component to student learning. Students are expected to submit original work for all evaluations, and are responsible for ensuring that issues of plagiarism, cheating, copying, etc. are avoided at all costs.
In the event that a student is unable to complete the assigned homework, it is the student’s responsibility to provide a hand-written note from a parent providing justification with documentation in order to avoid fines or penalties. A text message, a phone call or an email from a parent are NOT acceptable.
The homework deadline would only be extended with a reasonable documentary evidence, such as, a doctor’s note, boarding pass, etc.
Math Project supplies Teacher’s Notebooks to all students to facilitate their learning at home. Failure to bring the Notebook to any session will result in a $20 fine*.
Failure to bring their own timers will also result in a fine* of $20 per session.
*Math Project donates all fines to Mississauga Food Bank.
Failure to abide by the aforementioned homework rules will result in the following outcome:
On the occurrence of first violation, the student will be required to stay at Math Project from 11 am to 4:30 pm for Mandatory Homework Help Hours on the following Math Project session, while parents will pay a $200 security deposit by check. The security deposit will be refunded, upon request, on the earlier of student’s withdrawal from the program or 12 months after the first occurrence, if it doesn’t happen again in the 12-month period following the first occurrence.
On the second and third occurrence, the student will be required to stay back for Mandatory Homework Help Hours for two weeks per occurrence and Math Project will deduct $50 per week in Administration Fees to cover the cost of additional supervision.
